The Region of Peel
Situated in the heart of southern Ontario’s major urban centres, Peel Region is the second largest municipality in Ontario, with a population of more than 1.3 million people and 88,000 businesses in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the town of Caledon.
Peel Region has undergone a major transition during the past few decades. Rapid population growth and commercial development have transformed what was primarily a rural area of farms and villages into a dynamic blend of urban, industrial and residential areas.
In 1974, the Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated to provide a wide range of cost-effective programs and services over a larger geographical area that enhance our community’s health and safety, social and cultural development, environment, infrastructure and transportation systems.
Peel Region is governed by the Regional Chair and a 24 member Council, representing its member municipalities: the cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the town of Caledon. Responsible management, innovative programs and responsiveness to the needs of the community have been key factors in the economic growth and development of Peel Region.
Responsible and effective planning is critical to the success of the Region of Peel.
The Strategic Plan provides a foundation for establishing Term of Council Priorities, the annual Budget as well as program and operational plans.
