Rapid demographic and economic changes in Peel have resulted in inadequate housing stock relative to the growing Peel population. This has caused a growing gap between the supply and demand of affordable housing in Peel. As the Service System Manager for housing in Peel, the Region of Peel is addressing this gap by focusing on reducing the time applicants spend on the Centralized Housing Wait List. In the long term, affordable housing should positively impact poverty rates and support stable employment.
- Partnered to build a new high-rise in downtown Brampton with 205 affordable housing units.
- Purchased 40 condo units to house people and families on the centralized waiting list for housing.
