Peel ROP policies related to water resources will be reviewed and updated, taking into consideration:
- recent provincial legislation, plans and policies;
- recommendations of watershed plans; and
- best practices from other jurisdictions.
Water resource-related policies found in the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, Greenbelt Plan and Provincial Policy Statement will be incorporated into the Peel ROP as needed.
It is recommended that the review also serve to implement, as appropriate, existing studies that are either complete or that will be completed during the timeframe of the Peel ROP Review.
Watershed plans for the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Region’s Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan will be used as background studies for the Water Resources Policy Review, and recommendations from these studies will be reviewed and amended into the Peel ROP if appropriate.
Watershed planning, growth impacts on water resources such as water quality, quantity, flooding, erosion, water conservation, water taking and planning for vulnerable surface and ground water features, such as vulnerable aquifers and significant groundwater recharge areas are policy topic areas that will be reviewed at the broad strategic level.
