2002 Regional Official Plan Strategic Update

Strategic Update Newsletters

The Region of Peel has completed a strategic update of the Regional Official Plan (ROP) through a set of new Regional Official Plan Amendments (ROPA). The ROP is the prime policy document that guides future growth and development within the Region of Peel to the year 2031.

Several means of communication and consultation were employed during the strategic update process to provide information to and gain feedback from target audiences and the general public. This process built a high level of support that has led Regional Council's adoption of the amendments brought forward.

The Newsletters provide you with more details under the five focus areas of the Strategic Update process: Communication, Environment, Human Services, Regional Structure and Transportation.

Brief Summary of Regional Official Plan Amendments (ROPAs)

Environment Focus Area

ROPA 7 brings the ROP in conformity with the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, which has resulted in the establishment of new land use designations and an increased level of protection for water resources and natural features.

ROPA 13 updates environmental mapping to include more accurate data on environmental features, in order to strengthen environmental protection through the ROP.

Human Services Focus Area

ROPA 11 contains an extensive list of 24 new human services policies and 12 amended policies, which are now incorporated in the ROP.

Regional Structure Focus Area

ROPA 8 updates population, household and employment forecasts in the ROP to ensure essential services will continue to meet the needs of the residents in Peel.

ROPA 15 amends the Region's urban boundary to include Northwest Brampton as an area to accommodate future growth.

Transportation Focus Area

ROPA 16 proposes changes to the Region’s Transportation Network and Policies.

We also encourage you to read the back issue Newsletters to learn more about the strategic update and its process.
