During Paramedic Week we recognize and promote the critical role paramedics play in the health and safety of our communities.
Facts about Peel Paramedics
In 2012, they responded to over 90,000 calls.
- In the past year, they saved 59 cardiac arrest patients who returned home to their families.
- Launched two research trials as part of the service’s commitment to better patient outcomes. Both the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium’s (ROC) ALPS trial and the “Therapeutic Cooling” study will lead to enhanced care for cardiac arrest victims.
- Assessed, identified and transported over 240 people with a STEMI heart attack who were taken directly to Trillium or Brampton Civic hospital for immediate surgery in the last year.
- Educated the public on important health and safety issues such as CPR, heart attacks and strokes and provided resources to help people best use 911 and paramedic services.
