Portraits of Peel 2011: a Community Left Behind

Portraits of Peel

Four key Peel organizations will release a report documenting challenges Peel residents face in accessing critical community health and human services.

Portraits of Peel 2011: A Community Left Behind, describes a landscape where vulnerable populations – such as children, newcomers, seniors and persons with disabilities – are falling behind because provincial and federal funding is not keeping pace with community needs.

The 2011 report was co-authored by:

  • United Way of Peel Region
  • Social Planning Council of Peel
  • Peel Fair Share Task Force
  • Region of Peel
Why: As Peel’s population grows, so does the need for investment in community health and human services. However, overall funding is shrinking relative to the needs of Peel residents who wait longer for these services.

Representatives from the collaborating organizations will speak and be available for interviews.

  • Andre Lyn, Researcher Analyst, The Social Planning Council of Peel
  • Shelly White, CEO, United Way of Peel Region
  • Emil Kolb, Chair, Region of Peel
