Don’t Miss the Peel Integrated Waste Management Facility Open House – Saturday, May 7
BRAMPTON, ON. (May 2, 2011) – On Saturday, May 7, the Region of Peel will host a free open house at the Peel Integrated Waste Management Facility (PIWMF) to support both Public Works and Compost Awareness Weeks.
"Embracing reduction, reuse and recycling initiatives helps create a sustainable environment for current and future generations," says Trevor Barton, Supervisor, Waste Program Planning. "The open house features demonstrations and exhibits that showcase innovative waste management techniques as well as fun, environmentally focused activities for kids."
On May 7, children can discover a creative take on the art of recycling and plant native seeds in an organic pot that can be planted in gardens.
Adults can learn how to make more environmentally friendly choices when grocery shopping; view a demonstration on vermicomposting; and learn how Habitat for Humanity supports the reuse of building supplies and helps provide access to affordable housing in communities within the Region of Peel.
The open house takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7795 Torbram Rd. in Brampton. Visitors are asked to wear closed-toe, flat shoes. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
All visitors are asked to sign a waiver form, available onsite or at peelregion.ca/waste. Residents with special requirements can call the Region of Peel at 905-791-9499 before May 6.
