2011/2012 Waste Management Guide Coming to Your Home in March

BRAMPTON, ON. (March 15, 2011) During the weeks of March 14 and 21, the 2011/2012 Waste Management Guide will be delivered to Peel households that receive curbside waste collection services. A separate guide, customized to the waste disposal needs of apartments and condominiums, will be delivered in spring.

Both guides contain important information about the Region's waste collection programs, as well as the services offered at Peel’s network of Community Recycling Centres.

Residents are encouraged to keep their guide for easy reference throughout the year. The information contained in the guide and on the Region’s website should serve as the first source of information on the Region’s waste management programs and services.

Residents who opt out of receiving unaddressed ad mail should note that the guide will not be delivered to their household. Copies of the guide can be obtained by calling the Region of Peel at 905-791-9499. An electronic version is available at peelregion.ca/waste.

Contents of the guide:

  • Curbside collection services Everything you need to know about the Region’s curbside waste collection services, including a holiday and exemption period schedule, green bin and blue box tips, yard waste information and other collection guidelines
  • Reduce and reuse Reducing the amount of waste we generate and reusing items instead of discarding them helps save natural resources, conserve energy and decrease our need for landfill
  • Electronics recycling Select electronic waste is not collected at the curb or apartment buildings. Instead, residents can drop off select electronic waste at any CRC to be recycled, free of charge
  • Recycling guide A listing of acceptable and not acceptable blue box items. Residents are reminded that recyclable items placed in garbage, grocery or shopping bags will not be collected. Recyclable items must be placed loose in blue boxes or in transparent (clear or tinted blue) plastic bags
  • Garbage tag, blue box and green bin pick-up locations A complete listing of the distribution outlets throughout Peel offering garbage tags for purchase. The list also includes locations where residents can purchase or exchange recycling boxes, green bins and kitchen containers
  • Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) This section provides a detailed look at the variety of services and disposal options offered at Peel’s network of CRCs
