Tipping Fees to Increase First Time in Over a Decade

BRAMPTON, ON. (December 20, 2011) - Peel Regional Council approved the 2012 budget last week and the new rates and fees. Included in the changes is an increase to the tipping fees at the Community Recycling Centres. Under the new fee structure, dedicated loads of scrap metal will now be free but the cost for waste disposal will rise from $80 to $100 per tonne and the minimum tipping fee will rise from $2 to $5. Dedicated loads of recycling material remain free for disposal.

According to Waste Operations Manager Larry Conrad, “Peel Region has not raised its waste disposal fees for over ten years. Even with this increase, Peel’s tip fees are still at the low end of fees of the other municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area.”

The fee increase is anticipated to bring in an additional $400,000 annually in revenue. The increase takes effect as of January 2, 2012.
Peel Region operates five Community Recycling Centres. For information on locations, hours of operations and fees, please see peelregion.ca/waste.
