Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Waste Collection and Recycling Centre Information

BRAMPTON, ON. (Dec. 20, 2011) – During the weeks of December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012, Brampton and Mississauga residents are advised that garbage and recycling (blue box and green bin) will be collected one day later due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The following is a revised waste collection schedule:

Caledon residents are advised that there will be no changes to waste collection services due to the statutory holidays. Garbage and recycling (blue box and green bin) will be collected on regularly scheduled days.

Exemption Period

The Region of Peel offers residents a two-week Exemption Period for waste collection from Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 to Friday, Jan. 6, 2012.

As part of the Two Bag Standard program, the Region of Peel offers three curbside waste collection Exemption Periods each year. During these periods, residents may place unlimited quantities of acceptable waste at the curb on their scheduled waste collection day – no garbage tags required.

Regular drop-off fees apply at all Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) during Exemption Periods.

Community Recycling Centre Holiday Schedule

The Region of Peel's CRCs will be closed on the following days during the holiday period:

  • Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011
  • Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011
  • Monday, Dec. 26, 2011
  • Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011
  • Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012
  • In addition, the Caledon and Bolton CRCs will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012

CRCs will operate under regular hours and regular days of the week on all other days during the holiday period.

Christmas Tree Collection

Christmas trees will be collected during the week of Jan. 9, 2012 on regular waste collection days. Residents are asked to remove all outer plastic bags, ornaments, tinsel, nails, wire and the Christmas tree stand. Christmas trees buried in snowbanks may not be picked up. Residents may also drop off their Christmas trees at CRCs – regular drop-off fees will apply.
