Run, Walk and Roll 5K for the United Way Coming to Peel

Presented by Walk+Roll Peel, event proceeds will benefit the United Way of Peel Region

BRAMPTON, ON. (June 22, 2010) – The Region of Peel’s 2010 United Way Employee Campaign is pleased to announce its inaugural Run, Walk and Roll 5K event and 1K Kid’s Course in support of the United Way of Peel Region. The event, presented by Walk+Roll Peel, takes place Saturday, Oct. 30 with the event route beginning at 10 Peel Centre Dr. in Brampton and travelling along Queen Street.

Online registration opens July 21 at www.walkandrollpeel.ca and all are encouraged to visit the site for full event details.

“The Run, Walk and Roll 5K for the United Way is a chance to spend an active day with family and friends and help strengthen our community at the same time,” says Karen MacGougan, Co-Chair of the Region of Peel’s 2010 United Way Employee Campaign. 

Joanne Pattison, fellow Co-Chair of the Employee Campaign comments, “Whether you’re an avid athlete or an amateur enthusiast, join us for this inaugural event and support those in our community who rely on United Way funded agencies.”

Run, Walk and Roll 5K for the United Way is a family oriented, wheelchair accessible event.  There are three course options for participants to choose from: a 5K chip timed event; a 5K non chip timed event and a 1K Kid’s Course. Wheelchair athletes and parents with children in strollers or wagons are encouraged to participate; however, no bikes, skateboards or rollerblades are allowed on the course.

The Region of Peel has supported the United Way for over 30 years. The 2010 Employee Campaign target is $325,000 and the Run, Walk and Roll 5K for the United Way is a key fundraising event that will help the campaign to reach its target.
