Region of Peel Proclaims Public Works Week 2005
(Brampton) – Regional Council proclaimed yesterday that May 15-21, 2005 , is Public Works Week in Peel. Public Works Week recognizes and celebrates the contributions of Public Works initiatives to the community. This year’s theme is Public Works is everywhere you look.
“This is our opportunity to showcase what we do,” says Mitch Zamojc, Commissioner of Public Works. “Public Works Week provides an ideal forum to educate, inform and demonstrate to residents, first-hand, the dedication and excellence of our Public Works staff. We invite everyone to come out and get to know what the Region of Peel has to offer.”
Public Works Week is celebrated each May throughout North America . The primary objectives of the celebration are to educate and raise awareness of public works services. Residents are invited to participate in activities to learn more about public works programs and how they directly contribute to Peel’s standard of living.
The Region of Peel is hosting its annual Open House on Sunday, May 15, at Regional Headquarters in Brampton . The event includes various demonstrations, displays of Public Works vehicles and programs, a free barbecue and giveaways. There will also be a cake cutting to celebrate the Region’s two recent Public Works Week Recognition Awards.
“If you’ve ever wondered how clean drinking water reaches your tap, what happens to your waste and recycling once it leaves the curb, how roads are widened or where your water goes once you flush the toilet, than the Region of Peel Public Works Open House is for you,” says Zamojc. “I hope to see residents come out and celebrate with us."
