Be Ready. Be Prepared. Emergency Preparedness Week is May 1 to 7

(Brampton) - Emergencies can happen quickly and without warning. One of the most important things anyone can do to keep themselves and their family safe from an emergency is to be prepared.

This week, Peel Regional Council proclaimed Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week from May 1 - 7, 2005. Hosted by the Town of Caledon, the Region of Peel, in partnership with the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga, will help to educate residents about preparing and planning for emergencies by participating in a series of information sessions and a community exhibit. The theme of this year's event is "Emergency Planning for your Family".

Emergency professionals including Peel Paramedics, Caledon firefighters and O.P.P.’s D.A.R.E. will showcase emergency equipment and vehicles at the following location:

May 5 and 6 from 2-8 p.m.

Wal-Mart parking lot
Hwy. #50 & McEwan Drive
Bolton, Town of Caledon

Regional staff will provide a demonstration on how to create a family emergency preparedness kit and what to include in it. The first 100 people each day to visit the display will receive a mylar safety blanket - a great article for deflecting heat or keeping you warm, and a key item for any home or vehicle emergency kit. Visit the following locations to pick up a free Emergency Planning guide and more:

"Everyone has a role to play in emergency planning and preparedness," says Town of Caledon Mayor Marolyn Morrison, who is also Vice-Chair of the Region's Emergency Protective Services Committee. "We can all do our part to reduce the risks and lessen the consequences of a disaster by being better prepared."
