Region of Peel Proclaims Dec. 3, 2005 International Day of Disabled Persons

( Brampton ) – Peel Regional Council proclaimed Dec. 3, 2005 International Day of Disabled Persons in Peel. Established in 1992 by the United Nations, International Day of Disabled Persons will be celebrated by the Region of Peel on Dec. 2, 2005. The day will recognize the accomplishments of the Region’s Joint Peel-Caledon Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC), and offer Regional staff the opportunity to learn more about some of the challenges persons with disabilities overcome daily.

“The AAC is working hard with Regional staff and Council to provide the kind of strategic direction that will give all Peel residents full access to Regional programs and services,” says AAC member and Regional Councillor, Richard Paterak.

As part of International Day of Disabled Persons, Regional employees are invited to participate in an information session led by Executive Director of the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, Karen Liberman and visit learning stations that will give staff a glimpse into the life of a person with a disability.

As one of the fastest growing municipalities in Ontario , Peel Region is committed to developing effective strategies to improve Peel’s quality of life and providing programs and services that are accessible to all Peel residents.
