Region of Peel Enployees Raise $167,708 for the United Way of Peel Region
(Brampton) – Region of Peel employees raised $167,708 for the United Way
of Peel Region, surpassing their goal for 2002 of $157,000.

Today, in Regional Council, Regional Chair Emil Kolb and Chief Administrative
Officer Roger Maloney presented a cheque on behalf of Regional employees to
United Way of Peel Region Campaign Manager Marilyn Matthews and Public Sector
Chair of the Campaign Cabinet Steven Hall.
“Our campaign slogan ‘Come Together Right Now’ was particularly
suitable this year. Employees truly pulled together to achieve outstanding results
to support the community through the United Way,” said Roger Maloney,
Chief Administrative Officer with the Region of Peel. “Thanks to the dedication
of our campaign team and Regional employees who gave so generously, we’ve
surpassed our goal.”
For the third consecutive year, the Region made the United Way of Peel Region's
Top 10 list of organizations to raise the most funds in Peel Region, ranking
number eight. The Region was also recognized with a team award for the most
dollars raised by a team in the United Way of Peel Region's Walk-a-thon at the
United Way of Peel's 'Achievement 2002' event held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003
at the Mississauga Convention Centre.
“Individuals throughout the region rely on United Way services on a daily
basis. Through their campaign efforts and pledges Regional employees steadily
meet that call for assistance in our community,” said Regional Chair Emil
During the 2002 Employee Campaign, employees held many workplace events raising
awareness and support for the United Way, including a successful Corporate lip-sync
kick-off which helped raise $40,000 in pledges on the first day of the campaign.
Other events included: department kick-offs, golf tournament, head shaving
event, stretcher race, car rally, trivia challenge, barbeque and theme lunches,
silent and online auctions and many more.
In addition to support from these events, the Employee Campaign received a
generous contribution of $12,000 from funds raised at Regional Chair Emil Kolb’s
Hootenanny, which is held annually in September.
Region of Peel has supported the efforts of the United Way of Peel for more
than 26 years.
