Enhanced Adult Day Services now being offered at Malton Village Long Term Care Centre
Funding from the Central West (CW) LHIN, through the “Aging at Home” initiative, has allowed the Malton Village Adult Day Service to introduce some new programs and services to a greater number of clients.
This funding enables Malton Village to provide enhanced services to clients who are both frail and have heavier care needs. Those services include assistance with bathing, dressing and toileting.
Depending on individual preferences and needs, clients will also be able to access additional services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, music therapy or gardening.
By increasing capacity in the program for those in need, the program will now be able to accommodate four additional clients daily.
The Adult Day Service gives a much-needed break to the caregiver(s), while providing social activities to clients who may be socially isolated and delivering therapeutic programs for clients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, chronic illnesses and acquired brain injuries.
“People who come through our program often tell us how grateful they are that this service exists,” says Jeanie Papaconstantinou, Supervisor, ADS and Community Programs at Malton Village. “It keeps frail seniors in their homes longer and gives caregivers time to attend to errands and their own jobs.”
As the population ages, there is increasing reliance on Adult Day programs. That need is even more pronounced in Peel where the Central West LHIN projects a 90 per cent increase in population of seniors living in central west Ontario by 2016.
