Chinese Delegation Visits Peel Long Term Care

Malton Village Long-Term Care Centre hosted a delegation of hospital executives from the China Medical Department

On October 15, 2009 Malton Village Long-Term Care Centre hosted a delegation of hospital executives from the China Medical Department. Twenty four delegates spent the morning learning about Peel Long Term Care and toured the home.

“It was an honour for us to show one of our newest homes and share information about our services. Our staff prepared a comprehensive presentation on our Pandemic Preparedness Plan and long-term care infection prevention and control practices,” said Carolyn Clubine, Director of Peel Long Term Care.

A question period after the presentations turned out to be the most exciting part of the visit – the delegates were interested in all aspects of long-term care services including funding, client fees, programs and services, safety, and much more.

“This was our first time hosting an international delegation and we were a little bit nervous,” said Angela Archer, Acting Administrator of Malton Village. “But as I was showing our centre to one of the groups, I felt a great sense of pride in what we offer to our residents. It was obvious that the delegates were quite impressed with our facilities and services. They spoke with several residents who were happy to show their rooms, say hello and welcome our visitors to Canada. Overall, this was a very positive and uplifting experience.”

The visit was organized by the Canada China Economic and Cultural Centre which arranged several delegations to the Region in the past.

Malton Village is one of five Region of Peel long-term care homes. It is located in Mississauga and is home to 160 residents. It also offers Adult Day Service.
