Services for Homeless People

We provide support to people who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. Our services include emergency and transitional shelters, street outreach, support services and help to find permanent housing.

Subsidized Rental Housing

Apply for subsidized rental housing, find affordable market rentals and other resources to find affordable housing. You can also appeal your decision if you were denied subsidy, apply for Ontario Works (financial assistance and program supports) and apply for subsidized child care.

New Time-Limited Housing Allowance and Employment Program

Eligible Peel Access to Housing (PATH) applicants, who are currently employed, may have the opportunity to participate in a new program providing a housing allowance of up to $550 a month, for up to five years, and one-on-one support to further develop employment skills – Learn more (PDF, 126 KB).

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have an active, complete and eligible file on the PATH centralized wait list
  • Employed or another member on your application is employed
  • Have a minimum gross (before tax) household annual income of $25,000
  • Currently living in Peel (Brampton, Caledon or Mississauga)
  • Not a homeowner
  • Not receiving a rent subsidy or housing allowance

Market (non-subsidized) Rental Housing

Rental units are available at market (non-subsidized) rate through Peel Living, the Region of Peel’s non-profit housing company. For details on all available units please visit the Viewit Website.

Help to Secure or Stay in Your Home

We can help you with emergency financial aid if you need help paying overdue bills and/or mortgage and are at-risk of losing your home. We can also help you renovate your home for better accessibility with affordable home ownership loans.

  • Preventing Homelessness in Peel Program (PHIPP)
    Provides one-time emergency assistance to low-income families and individuals who need help to pay overdue bills and/or mortgage and are at risk of losing their housing.
  • Peel Renovates Program
    The Peel Renovates Program provides funding assistance to residents of Peel for renovations related to health and safety and/or accessibility to their homes and existing second units.

Building Affordable Housing in Peel

The Region of Peel is looking for partners who can bring new and innovative thinking to help create affordable housing options in Peel. Non-profit organizations, existing housing providers and the private sector all have a part to play in helping increase the amount of affordable housing options available for the residents of Peel.

As System Manager for housing, the Region of Peel is accountable for planning and supporting a housing system that is people-centred, recognizes the needs of individuals, families and the community, is based on partnerships and supported through innovative solutions.

    Executive Summary and Full Report

    A Supportive Housing Demand and Supply Analysis and Action Plan was completed in Spring 2016 to support the objectives of the Peel Housing and Homelessness Plan. Findings in the report demonstrate the immediate need for additional supportive housing units in Peel Region.

Peel Housing and Homelessness Plan

In 2013, Peel residents, community agencies, the Region of Peel and other key stakeholders collaborated to create the Peel Housing and Homelessness Plan. It aims to increase safe, affordable, accessible and appropriate housing in Peel.
