Preparedness Measures for Ebola Virus Disease

Regional Council received an overview of the Health Services department's preparedness planning for a case of Ebola virus disease in Peel Region.

A number of West African countries are experiencing a widespread outbreak of Ebola virus disease. While Ebola can cause serious illness, there is low risk of contracting the disease if appropriate precautions are taken. No cases of Ebola have been identified in Canada and the risk to Ontarians remains very low. The Health Services department has taken steps to prepare for a potential case of Ebola in Peel, with guidance from the federal and provincial governments.

Health Services will continue to monitor the situation and inform Council if there are any significant changes to the planned response.
