Regional Council received an overview of the Health Services department's preparedness planning for a case of Ebola virus disease in Peel Region.
A number of West African countries are experiencing a widespread outbreak of Ebola virus disease. While Ebola can cause serious illness, there is low risk of contracting the disease if appropriate precautions are taken. No cases of Ebola have been identified in Canada and the risk to Ontarians remains very low. The Health Services department has taken steps to prepare for a potential case of Ebola in Peel, with guidance from the federal and provincial governments.
Health Services will continue to monitor the situation and inform Council if there are any significant changes to the planned response.
Authorization to Hold a Public Meeting for an Application for Exemption under the Retail Business Holidays Act by T & T Supermarket Inc. for 715 Central Parkway West - City of Mississauga, Ward 7
Regional Council approved the holding of a public meeting on March 12, 2015 with respect to the application for exemption under the Retail Business Holidays Act by T&T Supermarket Inc., for 715 Central Parkway West in Mississauga.
Staff will provide additional background information on the exemption criteria and the applicant will identify how the request addresses the criteria, at the Public Meeting.
Regional Council received an overview of the Traffic and Road Safety Performance Report 2014 (based on 2012 statistics). The report outlines the road networks' current status and focuses on engineering and safety enhancements to improve roadway safety for all road users.
The Traffic and Road Safety Performance Report provides a review of the current status of the Regional Road Network from a historical collision perspective. Additionally, the report highlights some of the mitigative measures to enhance safety on Regional Roads.
The cyclical process of the collection of data, analysis of the data, development of enhancement plans and programs will continue to further build on the safety for all of our road users.
Regional Council approved the creation of a Task Force consisting of the Mayors of Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga, the Regional Chair, the Chief Administrative Officers (or their designate) of the Region of Peel, Cities of Brampton and Mississauga, the Town of Caledon and the Regional Clerk, to develop and report back to Regional Council on terms of reference and approach for:
a) A review of the governance of the Region of Peel;
b) The options for election of the Regional Chair; and,
c) The composition of Regional Council.
During the last term of Regional Council, staff was directed to report to Council in early 2015 to initiate a review of the governance of the Region of Peel.
In accordance with section 219(3) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, a change in Regional Council's composition or the method of selecting the Chair can be in place for the 2018 municipal election only if changes are implemented before December 31, 2017.
