Enbridge Gas Rebate Cheque for the Reduction of Natural Gas Consumption

Regional Council received a rebate in the amount of $200,000 from Peter Goldman, Sales Manager and Michael Hubacheck, Energy Solutions Manager, on behalf of Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. The rebate was awarded to the Region of Peel for the Reduction of Natural Gas Consumption at Incinerators 1 and 2 at the G.E. Booth Lakeview Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The reduction of natural gas consumption at the facility can be attributed to the upgrade of Cold Wind box incinerators with new Hot Wind box incinerators. Incineration is an integral part of the wastewater treatment process because it effectively destroys de-watered sludge - a by-product of wastewater treatment.

The Hot Wind box incinerators work more efficiently than Cold Wind box incinerators on de-watered biosolids, which led to a drastic reduction of natural gas consumption at the facility.

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) Update on Activities

Regional Council received an update from Toby Lennox, Vice President, Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). Toby Lennox advised that Stephen Griggs, who is the Executive Director for the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance, has replaced the late Stanley Archdekin as the Peel representative on the GTAA Board of Directors.

Toby Lennox stated that the GTAA anticipates that the Region of Peel will be an area of substantial growth in the years ahead.  The GTAA has a unique global position where direct flights from Pearson International Airport (Pearson) are able to reach major markets all over the world.  The GTAA serves 85,000 passengers per day and handles 50 per cent of Canada’s air freight daily, which is then moved through the Region of Peel.
