Volunteer Week in the Region of Peel - April 15 to 21, 2007
 

April 15 to 21 has been proclaimed "Volunteer Week" in the Region of Peel, to coincide with National "Volunteer Week". Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to pay special tribute to volunteers across Canada who give of themselves to better their communities and the lives of others.

Regional Council recognized that volunteers supply a valued link between our programs and our diverse communities. Across Regional departments, more than 1,700 volunteers are contributing to the success of Regional programs within our community.

Award of Contact for Detailed Design and Contract Administration and Supervision for Various Bridge Structures and Culvert Rehabilitations
 

Regional Council approved the awarding of the contract for detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision services, for the rehabilitation of bridge and culvert structures referred to as Finch Box Culvert, Wrights Bridge, CNR Overpass, Dixie Road Bridge, Hunters Bridge, Derry Road over Credit River Bridge, Cawthra Road CPR Overpass, and the Belfountain Arch Bridge to Morrison Hershfield Limited in the estimated amount of $661,925.

Joint Project with Town of Caledon, Proposed Construction of a Sanitary Sewage System and Local Road Improvements in the Village of Inglewood
 

Regional Council approved the awarding of the contract for detailed design, contract administration and construction inspection services for the construction of a sanitary sewage system and local road improvements in the Village of Inglewood, to R.J. Burnside and Associates Limited in the estimated amount of $1,098,395.

Managed Competition for Roadside Ditching Services, Primarily in the Town of Caledon
 

Regional Council approved the awarding of the contract to perform Roadside Ditching Services on Regional Roads, primarily in the Town of Caledon area, to Operations and Maintenance staff from the Region of Peel, for an estimated total cost of $446,400.

Service Contract for Processing of Wood Waste from Community Recycling Centres
 

Regional Council approved the contract extension with Brampton Pallet Incorporated for the provision of wood waste recycling services for a one year period starting April 1, 2007 in the estimated amount of $250,000 per year.

Housing and Property
Affordable Housing Program - Execution of the Contribution Agreement for the Walker Road Expansion Project - Town of Caledon, Ward 3
 

In November 2005, the Peel Housing Corporation approved the Walker Road expansion and intensification proposal. The Walker Road expansion was also approved by Regional Council under the Affordable Housing Delivery Plan on July 7, 2006. At the March 22, 2007 General Committee meeting, a Contribution Agreement Plan was approved to allow the Region of Peel to receive $1.25 million for the expansion project on behalf of Peel Housing Corporation from the Provincial Government.

The Walker Road expansion will include a 20-plus unit addition to an existing seniors' building and a drop-in centre for all area seniors.

Management
Re-Organization of Corporate Structure
 

Regional Council authorized proceeding with the Re-Organization of the Corporate Structure as proposed by Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) David Szwarc. The CAO was directed to review the corporate structure during his first year in the position, to ensure that the structure was appropriate to meet current and future service demands. The changes made will occur in phases resulting in two fewer departments in the organization.
