Pollock, Director of Waste Management, announced
details of two awards received for projects relating
to the former Britannia Landfill Site in the City
of Mississauga. Both awards were presented to
the Region and its partners in November 2005.
Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships
presented the Region of Peel and Integrated Gas
Recovery Systems Inc. with the "Silver Award
for Infrastructure". The project uses gas
collected from the former Britannia Landfill Site
to generate 'green' energy, which is used to operate
the Region's Lakeview Wastewater Treatment Facility.
in November, the BraeBen Golf Couse, an exceptional
recreational asset built on the former Britannia
Landfill Site, received an Award of Merit for
Innovation and City-wide Significance at the Mississauga
Urban Design Awards presentation. The award recognized
the efforts and expertise of Radeff Architect
Ltd., Baker Turner Inc., the City of Mississauga
and the Region of Peel in the planning and development
of this championship golf course.
