Former Britannia Landfill Site Wins Two Awards

Andrew Pollock, Director of Waste Management, announced details of two awards received for projects relating to the former Britannia Landfill Site in the City of Mississauga. Both awards were presented to the Region and its partners in November 2005.

The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships presented the Region of Peel and Integrated Gas Recovery Systems Inc. with the "Silver Award for Infrastructure". The project uses gas collected from the former Britannia Landfill Site to generate 'green' energy, which is used to operate the Region's Lakeview Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Also in November, the BraeBen Golf Couse, an exceptional recreational asset built on the former Britannia Landfill Site, received an Award of Merit for Innovation and City-wide Significance at the Mississauga Urban Design Awards presentation. The award recognized the efforts and expertise of Radeff Architect Ltd., Baker Turner Inc., the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel in the planning and development of this championship golf course.
