Success By 6 Peel Council of Champions
 

Regional Council appointed the Regional Chair Emil Kolb (ex-officio), Regional Councillors Elaine Moore, Marolyn Morrison and Katie Mahoney to the Success by 6 Peel Council of Champions.

Success By 6 Peel will bring the community together to collectively focus on children ages 0-6 and their caregivers to create integrated community solutions that improve access to services. The Council of Champions is intended to be the steering committee of community leaders from the public and private and not-for-profit sections of the community.

Regional Councillor Annette Groves has been appointed as an alternate member to Councillor Morrison.

 Proclamations
Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day - October 27, 2004
 

Regional Council proclaimed October 27, 2004 as "Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day" in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Children's Services Division of Social Services.

This year will be the fourth annual Child Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day in Ontario. The day will raise awareness of the influence, dedication and commitment of child care workers and early childhood educators to children, their families and the quality of life of the community.

Week of the Child - October 16 - 23, 2004
 

Regional Council proclaimed the week of October 16 to 23, 2004 as the "Week of the Child" in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Children's Services Division of Social Services.

The Week of the Child is held annually and is designated as a time for communities to focus on the needs, rights and interests of children and to heighten public awareness of the value of quality Early Childhood Education.

 Delegations/Presentations
Canada Post Literacy Award for Educators
 

Regional Chair Emil Kolb presented the 2004 Canada Post Literacy Award for Educators to Luisa Bertrame an Early Years Literacy Consultant from the Children's Services Division of Social Services.

Luisa Bertrame received the award for her outstanding commitment and contribution to literacy in the Peel Community through her work with libraries, Ontario Early Years Centres, school boards and health departments on literacy initiatives throughout Peel. She was honoured at the 12th Annual Canada Post Literacy Awards Ceremony on September 8, 2004 held at the Toronto City Hall.

The Regional Municipality of Peel Accessibility Plan - September 2004
 

Regional Council approved the second annual Region of Peel Accessibility Plan, as endorsed by the Joint Peel-Caledon Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC).

The Plan supports a strategic approach to establishing a strong foundation for addressing and integrating accessibility at the Region of Peel.

The second annual Accessibility Plan is available electronically on the "Making Way for Ontarians with Disabilities" home page on the website of the Region of Peel at www.peelregion.ca or in printed hard copy at the Regional headquarters, at 10 Peel Centre Dr., Brampton. The Plan will also be available on audio CD and CD-ROM with other accessible formats being considered upon request.

 Public Works
Looping Existing Watermain on Various Streets, Capital Projects 04-1385 and 04-1386, Document 2004-325T - City of Brampton, Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10
 

Regional Council awarded a contract to Wardet Limited at an estimated cost of $424,918 for the construction of 50mm diameter (1.9 inches) watermains on various streets in the City of Brampton to loop watermains in various cul-de-sacs that will enhance the local water service. The work is required to be completed in 2004 in advance of resurfacing works planned by the City of Brampton in 2005.
