World Breastfeeding Week is an annual global campaign to raise awareness and support for breastfeeding. This year's theme is Exclusive Breastfeeding: The Gold Standard - Safe, Sound and Sustainable. Elimination of Prenatal Class Fees at the Region of Peel

Regional Council approved Peel Health's recommendation to eliminate prenatal class fees in the Region of Peel starting January 1, 2005.

Prenatal classes are an important first point of access to the services of the Health Department; services that we endeavour to have parents use in the years ahead. Fees charged for prenatal classes can constitute a barrier for clients accessing vital health education.

 Housing and Property
Energy Efficient Building Pilot Project

Regional Council approved Housing and Property Department's recommendation to award Ameresco Canada a contract in the amount of $4,455,000 for energy efficiency retrofit work at Bella Vista Place, South Common Court and the Peel Heritage Complex. Eight other Peel Living buildings and eight Region facilities are slated to undergo minor retrofit work for lighting, thirteen sites will receive weather stripping upgrades and six sites will receive vending machine controls.

Energy efficiency retrofits will advance the Region's commitment to reduce emissions by 20% from 1990 levels.

Installing energy efficient equipment and reducing energy consumption translates into a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improving the environment and demonstrating the Region of Peel's environmental stewardship and leadership.
