 Human Services
Provincial Funding of Homemakers and Nurses Services in Peel
 

Regional Council approved a recommendation supporting the Community Care Access Centre's (CCAC) request that the Provincial Government release the $800,000 in Provincial funding allocated annually for homemaking and nursing services in Peel without the requirement of municipal cost-sharing.

The Homemakers and Nurses Services program was established in the 1950's and is funded by the Provincial Government under the Homemakers and Nurses Act. Homemakers and Nurses Services is a needs-tested program that provides funding for visiting homemakers and nurses to people, based on their ability to pay. The Provincial Government transferred responsibility for Homecare and Homemaking services to the CCAC in 1995.

Bill C-45 an Act to Amend the Criminal Code Respecting the Criminal Liability of Organizations Regarding Injuries to Workers and the Public
 

Regional Council received a report from the Commissioner of Corporate Services and Regional Solicitor and Commissioner of People, Information and Technology dated May 27, 2004, titled "Bill C-45 an Act to Amend the Criminal Code Respecting the Criminal Liability of Organizations Regarding Injuries to Workers and the Public", advising of amendments to the Criminal Code of Canada regarding Criminal Negligence Provisions.

Mimi Singh, Senior Legal Council and John Austin, Manager, Workplace Health and Safety presented a brief overview of the amendments to Regional Councillors, including a new duty of care for all persons directing the work of others, and the establishment of rules for attributing criminal liability to organizations including municipalities for the acts of their representatives.

Regional Official Plan Strategic Update - Regional Official Plan Amendment Proposing Changes to Human Services Planning Policies (File ROPA 03-004)
 

Regional Council approved the holding of a statutory Public Meeting on Thursday, July 8, 2004 commencing at 9:30 a.m., to inform the public and obtain input with respect to a proposed amendment to the Region of Peel Official Plan (ROPA), relating to human services planning policies.

A copy of the report of the Commissioner of Planning dated May 7, 2004, titled "Regional Official Plan Strategic Update - Regional Official Plan Amendment Proposing Changes to Human Services Planning Policies (File ROPA 03-004)", will be forwarded to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga, the Town of Caledon, and all other municipalities adjacent to the Region of Peel for comment.

 Public Works
Implementation of New Operating Hours at the Battleford and Brampton Community Recycling Centres
 

Regional Council approved new operating hours at the Battleford and Brampton Community Recycling Centres to seven days per week, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with extended evening hours from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on
Thursdays during the months of Daylight Savings time.

Dedicated loads of Blue and Grey box material, household hazardous waste and reusable materials delivered to all Community Recycling Centres will be accepted free of charge.

In addition, Regional staff are authorized to notify the public on the proposed implementation of a minimum user fee of $2.00 per load with an additional $0.08 per kilogram charged for loads greater than 25 kilograms (other than dedicated loads of Blue and Grey Box material, household hazardous waste and reusable items).
