News Release

The Region of Peel received the "Work and Well Being Award" from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), in Toronto, recognizing the Region for its support of mental health in the workplace and partnership with community agencies.

Bovaird Drive Widening from 150 Metres (492 Feet) West of McLaughlin Road to 300 Metres (984 Feet) West of Mississauga Road, Capital Project 02-4090 - City of Brampton, Ward 6
 

Regional Council awarded the contract to provide detail design, contract administration and inspection services for the widening of Bovaird Drive from 150 metres (492 feet) west of McLaughlin Road to 300 metres (984 feet) west of Mississauga Road, City of Brampton, to UMA Engineering Ltd., at an estimated cost of $1,210,019. Phase II construction is anticipated for the 2004 and 2005 construction seasons.

Bovaird Drive Widening from Highway 410 to McLaughlin Road, Capital Project 02-4090 - City of Brampton, Wards 1, 2 and 5
 

Regional Council awarded the contract to provide detailed design, contract administration and inspection services for the widening of Bovaird Drive from Highway 410 to 150 metres (492 feet) west of McLaughlin Road, to Giffels Associates Limited at an estimated cost of $1,032, 300. Phase I construction is anticipated for the 2004 and 2005 construction seasons.

Airport Road/Castlemore Road Feedermains - Design/Build, Capital Projects 02-1970, 98-4120 and 02-1995 - City of Brampton, Wards 10 & 11
 

Regional Council awarded the contract for the design and construction of the Airport Road/Castlemore Road Feedermains, to Dufferin Construction Company, for the estimated cost of $32,307,000. The Airport Road/Castlemore Road Feedermains are required to meet the servicing needs of the Region of Peel/York Region long term service strategy plan.

Airport Road Reservoir and Pumping Station, Capital Project 02-1916 - City of Brampton, Ward 10
 

Regional Council awarded the contract for the Airport Road Reservoir and Pumping Station, to Kenaidan Contracting Ltd., for an estimated cost of $38,327,200. The Airport Road Reservoir and Pumping Station is a key component of the Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan and the York-Peel Water Supply Agreement to service both the Region of Peel and the Region of York.

Municipal Housing Facility By-Law
 

Regional Council passed By-Law Number 41-2003, a by-law to govern the provision of municipal housing project facilities in the Region of Peel. The by-law creates a structure to enable the Region to partner with both private and non-profit sector entities to encourage the creation of affordable housing in Peel.

West Nile Virus in the Region of Peel
 

The Commissioner of Health and Medical Officer of Health presented a detailed report to Regional Council on the findings from West Nile Virus (WNV) surveillance activities conducted in the Region of Peel in 2002, and how they relate to the Region's West Nile Virus Prevention & Control Plan 2003. The report includes findings from a WNV Surveillance conducted in 2002 involving dead crows, adult mosquitoes, larval mosquitoes and human cases.

Nutrition Month Campaign
 

Regional Council received a report from the Commissioner of Health and the Medical Officer of Health titled "Nutrition Month Campaign". The report provided members of Council with an overview of the successful nutrition month campaign titled "Healthy Eating … Tasty and Easy" conducted in March 2003. The focus of the March 2003 Nutrition Month campaign was to help women find solutions to healthy eating challenges for themselves and their families.

Adoption of Regional Official Plan Amendment Number 8
 

Regional Council passed By-law Number 39-2003, a by-law to adopt Official Plan Amendment Number 8.

Regional Official Plan Amendment Number 8 amends Table 1: Population and Employment Forecasts for Peel of the Regional Official Plan to reflect up-to-date population and employment forecasts for Peel and its area municipalities. A Public Meeting was held on June 12, 2003, no oral or written comments were submitted by the public.
