 Health
Oral Health Status of Peel Children
News Release

Peel's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David McKeown made a presentation to Regional Council on the oral health status of the children in the Region of Peel.

He advised Council that oral health plays an important role in general health and quality of life. Results of the survey conducted in 2001/02, identified significant dental disease among Peel children. In order to effectively address the oral health needs of children in Peel, a three-pronged approach is necessary. These approaches include: investigation of methods to fluoridate communal well water in Caledon; enhancement of existing dental health promotion and clinical preventive services; and advocacy to Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to fund the treatment of non-urgent dental conditions for children of families that do not receive any form of dental benefits or insurance and are deemed working poor.
