Public Works Week - May 18 to 24, 2003
News Release

Regional Council proclaimed the week of May 18 to 24, 2003 as Public Works Week in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Public Works Department.

Public Works Week is celebrated annually during the month of May and this year's theme is "The Strength of Public Works". The Region will be holding various events across the Region, including a Truck Driving Skills Rodeo and Public Works Scavenger Hunt from May 20 to 23. Public Open House events will be held on May 24, 2003 at 10 Peel Centre Dr. and at the Lorne Park Treatment Facility.

Earth Week - April 20 to 26, 2003 and Compost Awareness Week - April 27 to May 3, 2003
News Release

Regional Council proclaimed the week of April 20 to 26, 2003 as Earth Week and the week of April 27 to May 3, 2003 as Compost Awareness Week in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Public Works Department.

Earth Week is an annual global event and Compost Awareness Week is a national event declared by the Compost Council of Canada. The Region will hold various activities for the two events such as workshops tours, displays, promotions and daily quiz questions will be available on Peel's website.

West Nile Virus Strategy
2003 West Nile Virus Prevention and Control Program

Regional Council approved a resolution to increase the awareness of the West Nile Virus issue to the residents of Peel Region. Public meetings will be held in each area municipality to provide information to residents.

In addition, Pestalto Environmental Products Inc. was awarded the contract for the Mosquito Larvae Abatement Program for the prevention and control of West Nile Virus in the Region of Peel for the 2003 mosquito breeding session. The program was formally passed by Regional Council on March 6, 2003.

 Public Works
  Watermain Replacements
  The following watermain replacements were approved by Regional Council:
   

Homark Drive - City of Mississauga, Ward 3, Project 03-1350

The existing 150 mm diameter watermain on Homark Drive from 120 meters north of Flagship Drive to the end be replaced with a 150 mm for a total distance of approximately 350 meters.

Queen Street East - City of Brampton, Wards 1 and 3, Project 03-1460

The two (2) parallel 200 mm diameter watermains on Queen Street East, from Kennedy Road to Highway 410, will be replaced with a single 300 mm watermain for a total distance of approximately 1,200 meters.

Queen Street - Town of Caledon, Ward 5, Project 03-1390

The existing 150 mm watermain on Queen Street, from Elizabeth Street to King Street, will be replaced with a 300 mm watermain for a total distance of approximately 180 meters.
