Award of Excellence in Crime Control to Peel's Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Advisory Committee
 

Councillor Pat Saito presented the Award of Excellence in Crime Control to Paul Mountford, Planner and Lalita Paray, Junior Planner, Development Planning Services, Peel Planning Department. Councillor Saito also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Constable Tom McKay from Peel Police to the CPTED Committee.

The award recognizes contributions of those involved in finding new ways to improve the justice system and to enhance the safety of the people of Ontario.

 Proclamation
Infection Control Week, October 21 to 25, 2002
 

Regional Council proclaimed the week of October 21 to 25, 2002 as Infection Control Week in the Regional Municipality of Peel, as requested by the Health Department. This year's theme for Infection Control Week is "Stop the hesitation…Get the vaccination." The Infection Control Week offers an opportunity to highlight information to parents, operators of child care facilities and health care professionals on the importance of immunization.

Names for the New Long-Term Care Facilities
 

Regional Council approved the new names for two Long-Term Care Facilities in the Region of Peel, namely:

  • Tall Pines Long-Term Care Facility located at 1001 Peter Robertson Boulevard in the City of Brampton

  • Malton Village Long-Term Care Facility located at 7075 Rexwood Drive in the City of Mississauga

The two long-term care facilities are scheduled for completion in August 2003.

Airport Road Widening from Bovaird Drive to Countryside Drive, Project Number 01-4035 - City of Brampton, Wards 10 and 11
 

Regional Council retained Giffels Associates Limited to provide detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision services for the widening of Airport Road from Bovaird to Countryside Drive in the City of Brampton.

The completion of this project is necessary in order to meet the traffic demands of the growth in Northeast Brampton.

 Other Business
GTA Pooling for Social Services and Social Housing
 

Regional Council passed a resolution urging the Ontario Provincial Government to support the Fair Share for Peel's recommendation to dedicate one half of one per cent of the Ministry's annual $2.7 billion budget to rectify chronic underfunding for social service programs in Peel.

Council further requested the Provincial Government to discontinue pooling the City of Toronto social service and social housing costs across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) municipalities and to assume the full responsibility for funding the cost of social services throughout the entire province.
