Road Watch Program Receives Two Awards Recognizing Councillor Morrison's Contribution to Community Safety

Regional Councillor Marolyn Morrison, Town of Caledon, was recognized for her outstanding contribution to road safety and community service as an originator and builder of the ROAD WATCH program.

The ROAD WATCH program is a community initiative that started as a result of the high number of fatal vehicle collisions that occurred in the Caledon area, which has now expanded into several communities throughout the Province. The program gives residents and visitors an opportunity to help keep community roads safe by reporting dangerous, aggressive driving.

Human Services
Tobacco Sales to Minors - "Not to Kids" New Initiative

Peel Health and ten other public health agencies across Ontario have launched "Not to Kids", a community awareness and enforcement campaign designed to reduce youth access to tobacco. The campaign will involve public health departments working closely with tobacco retailers to develop a more consistent approach to prevent the sale of tobacco to youth.

"Not to Kids" is modelled after a successful Toronto-based campaign, where the number of stores selling cigarettes to kids dropped from 30 per cent to 16 per cent after the program was introduced. Promotional displays, pamphlets, posters and public service announcements will help raise community awareness of "Not to Kids".
