  Region Receives CAMA/US Filter Awards
   
 

Regional Council, on behalf of the Region of Peel, was awarded an Education Award for Peel's Children's Groundwater Festival and an Honourable mention, Innovation Award for the Ontario Works Intake Screening Unit. The two awards were given by CAMA/US Filter, a water management company. Council donated the $1500 received from the award to the United Way of Peel.

  Award for Grey Box Communication Strategy
   
 

Regional Council received the Canadian Public Relations Society National Award of Merit for the Region of Peel's Grey Box Communication Strategy. The Grey Box was introduced to the Region of Peel in September 2000 and is used for collection of recyclable paper products. Peel's Communication was selected from over 90 public and private sector candidates.

 Public Works
   
  Right Hand Turning Lanes to be constructed at Derry Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard, City of Brampton - Ward 9
   
 

Regional Council approved the construction of channelized right hand turning lanes at all four corners at the intersection of Derry Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard in the City of Mississauga. A recent traffic study indicated that extra turning lanes would decrease congestion and improve the traffic flow at this intersection.

  Five Watermains to be Replaced in City of Mississauga - Wards 3, 4 and 7
   
 

Regional Council contracted Comer Construction Ltd. for the replacement of outdated watermains on Constitution Boulevard, Queen Frederica Drive, Jaguar Valley Drive, Lolita Gardens and Breckenridge Road in the City of Mississauga. The estimated cost of the entire project is $1.7 million.

  Additional Lane on Derry Road, City of Mississauga - Ward 9
   
 

Regional Council approved the construction of an additional Eastbound Lane on Derry Road from Millcreek Drive to Argentia Road in the City of Mississauga. The estimated $300,000 project is intended to ease traffic congestion that often occurs during the morning commute.

  Water Treatment Infrastructure to be Reviewed
   
 

Regional Council retained KMK Consultants Limited to provide engineering services for a review of the water treatment infrastructure in South Peel. The review will include a condition assessment of the water treatment plants, pumping stations and reservoir to address Peel's future needs to meet growth projections. The estimated cost of the consultant study is $244,000.

  Upgrades to Water Pumping Stations, City of Mississauga - Wards 2, 5 and 9
   
 

Regional Council approved upgrades to the Herridge Pumping Station, Hanlan Pumping Station and the Meadowvale North Pumping Station. The approximate total cost of all three projects is $900,000 and will maintain the pumping stations until 2031.

 Management
   
  Funding Approved for Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) Property Purchase, Town of Caledon - Ward 1
   
 

Regional Council allocated $40,000 to the Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) for the purchase of a property located north of Peel Regional Road 24 on the west bank of the Credit River in the Town of Caledon. The CVC's mandate is to establish and undertake promotion of conservation, restoration, development of natural resources in partnership with local municipalities. The acquisition will protect a 4.0 kilometre (2.5 miles) area of natural forest, cold water fishery and wildlife refuge.

  Property Tax Relief Program Expanded
   
 

Regional Council approved a recommendation to expand its Tax Relief program for low-income senior and disabled homeowners to align the policy with amendments to Bill 140. Under the existing tax relief policy, only seniors and disabled homeowners with assessment-related tax increases were eligible to apply for deferral loans. The new amendments will make participants eligible for all tax increases, not just assessment related increases.

  Peel Transhelp Transfers from Mississauga Transit to be Free of Charge
   
 

Regional Council, as requested by the City of Mississauga, approved a recommendation to allow registered Peel Transhelp Passengers to transfer from Mississauga Transit buses to Transhelp buses without any charge. The free transfers will commence in September 2001, and will be reviewed after three years for the demand of the service and expansion of the program.
