  Photocopy Equipment Contract Reconsidered

Regional Council rescinded resolution 2001-209 which awarded a high-speed photocopier contract to Canon Canada Ltd. after further study uncovered new requirements needed by Regional staff. Council awarded the new photocopier contract to Ricoh Canada Inc. for the lease of two new digital photocopiers for a five-year term pending a successful evaluation period.

(2001-552)

Peel Ambulance to Receive New Defibrillators

Regional Council approved a contract with Zoll Medical Corporation for the supply and maintenance of 33 defibrillators to be used by Peel Ambulance Services. Defibrillators are used to stabilize a heart's rhythm by delivering an electric shock to the chest and are vital instruments used by paramedics. The estimated cost of this contract is $700,000.

(2001-553)

  Public Service Network (PSN) Expanded

Regional Council approved the expansion of the Public Service Network (PSN) to include a partnership with the Town of Caledon. The expansion will allow Town Offices in Caledon East and Bolton to be connected to the Network through fibre-optic wiring providing high-speed internet connections. The Town of Caledon has contributed $250,000 to cover the expansion costs.

(2001-556)

 Planning

Springdale Transporation Development Cap Increased to 13,000 Building Permits

Regional Council increased the Springdale Community transportation development cap to 13,000 building permits. The approval was conditional upon several factors, including improvements to the transportation network, a minimum 2-lane construction on Sandalwood Parkway from Great Lakes Drive to Heart Lake Road and upgrades to the current traffic signals and lane markings at Bovaird Drive and Highway 410 northbound ramp to provide additional capacity for any increased traffic.

(2001-571)

 Housing and Property

  National Housing Policy Team Supported

Regional Council endorsed a $14,755 contribution (1.5 cents per capita) to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to support the National Housing Policy Options Team. The National Housing Team studies and creates broad housing policies for Canadian municipalities and has been instrumental in lobbying the Federal government for a Canada-wide housing supply program.

(2001-578)

 Human Services

  Protection from Second-Hand Smoke Urged

Regional Council, acting on a recent report by the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit, passed a resolution urging the Ontario Minister of Labour to enforce the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act by eliminating tobacco smoke from all workplaces, including restaurant and bars. The report found that proper ventilation in office places could not eliminate second hand smoke from indoor air, thereby posing a health hazard to employees.

(2001-581)

Long-Term Care Beds Added in Peel

Regional Council received an update on the status of long-term care beds in the Region of Peel. Council was informed that Peel is seriously underbedded in long-term care beds and that Peel will receive 2,304 new beds - more than double the current number - over the next 5 years to align Peel with the Provincial average. The additional beds will meet Peel's long-term care requirements until 2008.

(2001-582)

 Public Works

Peel to Supply Drinking Water to Region of York

Regional Council finalized an agreement that will supply drinking water to the Region of York from 2004 until 2031. Council's authorization was conditional upon Peel's continuing efforts to resolve odour problems at the Lakeview Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Region of Peel is expected to receive $152.4 million in financial benefits over the course of this agreement.

(2001-549)

Contract Extension for Television Inspection of Sanitary Sewers

Regional Council approved a one-year extension with Telescan Sewer Services Ltd. for inspecting Peel's sanitary sewers by close circuit cameras. Cameras are used to provide staff with detailed inspections of sewers for proper maintenance and replacement when required. The estimated cost of the contract extension is $248,000.

(2001-589)

Dixie Road Watermain Replacement, City of Mississauga, Ward 5

Regional Council approved a contract with Power Contracting Ltd. for the construction of a 400 mm (16 inch) diameter watermain. The watermain will be installed on Dixie Road from Eglinton Avenue to Highway 401, City of Mississauga, Ward 5 at an estimated cost of $1,159,296.

(2001-590)

  Caledon Landfill Hay Baler Sold

Regional Council approved the sale of the Hay Baler at the Caledon Landfill site to Hill Agra Machinery. Originally purchased in 1998, the Baler was used to aid in baling by-product from the Stabilate process for easier handling and storage. The Baler was sold for $36,100.
