The following are decisions made by Regional Council on
Thursday, March 8, 2001.

  Red Cross Month, March 2001

Regional Council proclaimed the month of March 2001 as Red Cross Month in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Canadian Red Cross Society, Region of Peel Branch.

The Red Cross provides many quality services throughout the Region of Peel, and has helped thousands of Canadians through Disaster Relief assistance.


 Delegations/Staff Presentations
  Brampton Guardian Reporter Thanked for her Dedicated Service
  Regional Council acknowledged and thanked Marta Marachuk for her years of dedicated service and quality impartial reporting on Regional Council issues. Marta is leaving her position at the Brampton Guardian and joining the Mississauga News.

  2001 Current and Capital Budget Approved
  Regional Council, during a Special Regional Council meeting held on March 1, 2001, approved the Region's 2001 Current and Capital Budget. The 2001 Business Plan includes no rate increases for property taxes and water/wastewater services, and represents the fourth consecutive year of no tax increases and the eleventh consecutive year of no tax increase for directly controlled Regional programs.

  Consultant for Cordon Count Program
  Regional Council approved a contract with Ontario Traffic Inc. to provide consultation services for the 2001 Peel Region Cordon Count Program. This program collects data on traffic conditions in the Region of Peel to monitor changes in travel and commuter patterns to assist in transportation planning.

 Public Works
  Garbage Bag Limit Implemented
  Regional Council approved the June 2001 implementation of a three bag limit (per household) program on curbside waste in the Region of Peel. This waste reduction initiative will be implemented in three phases over the next 15 months and is modelled on similar successful programs in other Municipalities.

  Local Improvement Project - Watermain Replacement on Riverspray Crescent, City of Mississauga, Ward 3
  Regional Council approved a contract with F.C.M Construction Ltd. for the replacement of a 150 mm (6 inch) diameter watermain. The 450 metre (1,476 feet) line will be installed on Riverspray Crescent east of Runningbrook Drive, City of Mississauga, Ward 3 at an estimated total cost of $200,000.

  Sanitary Sewer Cleaning Continued
  Regional Council approved the continuation of cleaning sanitary sewers in the Region of Peel by Regional Maintenance and Operations staff for the next three years. This project includes cleaning 450,000 metres of sewer lines and inspecting 5000 maintenance holes at an estimated total cost of $645,684.

  U-Turn Prohibition on Steeles Avenue
  Regional Council passed By-law 8-2001 to prohibit eastbound to westbound U-turns at the intersection of Regional Road 15 (Steeles Avenue) and Rutherford Road/First Gulf Boulevard, City of Brampton, Ward 3.
