The following are decisions made by Regional Council on

 Proclamations
   
  National Public Works Week, May 20-26, 2001
   
 

Regional Council proclaimed the week of May 20-26, 2001 as National Public Works Week in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Public Works department.

This year's theme is "Working in the Public Interest". The public is invited to attend a Public Works' Open House on May 26, 2001 at 10 Peel Centre Dr..

  Water Awareness Week, June 6 - 12, 2001
   
 

Regional Council proclaimed the week of June 6 -12, 2001 as Children's Water Awareness Week in the Region of Peel, as requested by the Public Works, Planning and Health departments.

Water Awareness Week will include Peel's 2001 Children's Water Festival and will educate 5000 Peel elementary school students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 about the importance of water safety, conservation and protection our of environment.

 Appointments
   
  Peel Agricultural Advisory Working Group
   
  Regional Council appointed David Armstrong, Bill Jackson, Frances Johnston, Cliff Laidlaw, Anne Livingston, David Lyons, Blythe Meek, Jim Moore, John Pesce and Kevin Watson to serve on the Peel Agriculural Advisory Working Group (PAAWG). Regional Councillors Chris Harker, Marolyn Morrison and City of Brampton Councillor John Hutton were previously appointed to PAAWG.

  Conservation Halton Citizen Appointments
   
  Regional Council, on the recommendation from the City of Mississauga, appointed Danny Sugimoto and Jean Williams to serve on the Conservation Halton Authority for a term ending November 30, 2003. Conservation Halton was established in partnership with the Province of Ontario to conserve and manage the area's natural resources.

 Planning
   
  Town of Caledon Planning Approval Delegated
   
  Regional Council delegated authority to the Town of Caledon to approve subdivision and condominium plans within the Town's boundaries effective March 1, 2001. The City of Brampton and City of Mississauga were given the same authority in 1997.

 Public Works
   
  Early Warning Well Monitoring Network
   
  Regional Council retained AMEC Limited to design and contract administration of an Early Warning Well Monitoring Network and develop an Alternative Well Site Strategy in the Town of Caledon. The $120,000 contract will develop plans to ensure the quality of the Region's water supply.

  Local Improvement Project - Sanitary Sewer Extension on Woodchuck Lane, City of Mississauga, Ward 8
   
  Regional Council approved a 250 mm (10 inch) diameter sanitary sewer extension to be constructed on Woodchuck Lane in the City of Mississauga. The 180 metre line will be constructed under the Local Improvement Act and will cost approximately $105,000.

  Expansion of Caledon Reservoir
   
  Regional Council retained MacViro Consultants Inc. to provide design and contract services to upgrade and expand the Caledon East Reservoir. The improvement will meet water requirements of the surrounding community until 2021.

  Backyard Composter Program Extended
   
  Regional Council approved the distribution and subsidization of 8,000 backyard composters at a cost of $200,000. Since 1985, the Region has distributed over 100,000 composters to the community to reduce organic waste in the Region of Peel.

 Housing and Property
   
  Security Retrofit Contract Awarded
   
  Regional Council approved a contract with KPMG Investigation and Security Inc. to update access systems at Region of Peel facilities. This project will update and standardize current systems to provide easier access for Peel employees, while maintaining high levels of security. The cost of this contract is $290,000.

  Land Transfer for Widening Highway 10
   
  Regional Council approved the transfer of 243.84 square meters (.287 acres) of land to the Ministry of Transportation to widen Highway 10 through the Village of Caledon. The land was sold to the Province of Ontario for $11,050.
