The following are decisions made by Regional Council on Thursday, August
9-1-1 Awareness Week - September 11-17, 2000
Regional Council proclaimed the week of September 11 - 17, 2000 as
9-1-1- Awareness Week in the Region of Peel.
The purpose of the 9-1-1 Awareness Campaign is to focus public attention
on the proper use of the 9-1-1 emergency number; to explain circumstances
which warrant the use of 9-1-1 and to communicate the importance of
reducing the number of non-emergency and nuisance calls received by
Vicki Barron, General Manager, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
Vicki Barron, General Manager, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC),
appeared before Regional Council regarding the CVC Sustainable Water
Strategy. Regional Council supported the CVC initiative by urging
the Province to place a priority on the development of appropriate
legislation and policies for the sustainable management of Ontario's
surface and groundwater resources.
Regional Official Plan (R.O.P.) Housekeeping Amendment Public
Regional Council approved the calling of a Public Meeting regarding
Amendment Number 2 to the Regional Official Plan (R.O.P.) on September
7, 2000. The General Committee meeting scheduled for that day will
commence immediately following the Public Meeting.
Proposed Airport Road Feedermain from Derry Road to Highway 409
- City of Mississauga, Ward 5
Regional Council approved the retention of consulting engineering
firm, Burnside and Associates Limited, to provide design, contract
administration and construction supervision services for the proposed
600 mm diameter feedermain on Airport Road, from Derry Road to Highway
409, at an estimated total cost of $176,000, excluding GST.
Stopping Prohibition on the East Side of Regional Road 19 (Winston
Churchill Boulevard) from Highway 7 to Green Street-City of Brampton,
Regional Council approved the implementation of a stopping prohibition
on the east side of Regional Road 19 (Winston Churchill Boulevard)
from Highway 7 to Green Street in the City of Brampton, Ward 6.
Wellhead Protection Area Program - Hydrogeological Services
Regional Council approved the retention of AGRA Earth and Environmental
Limited for the provision of Hydrogeological Services for the Region
of Peel's Wellhead Protection Program at the estimated total cost
of $60,000, exclusive of taxes.
Greenhouse Gas Strategy
Regional Council approved that the Region become a member of the
Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, adopting the milestones
of membership that include a commitment to reduce 1990 levels of greenhouse
gas emissions in Regional operations by 20% within 10 years. Further
to her request, Mayor Carol Seglins, Town of Caledon, was welcomed
to participate on the newly formed Regional Greenhouse Gas Working
Appointments to the Peel Regional Housing Authority (PRHA)
Regional Council approved the reappointment of Councillor Maja Prentice
and Richard Whitehead for terms ending on July 31, 2001 to the Peel
Regional Housing Authority (PRHA). Council further endorsed the nominations
of Jack Cliffe of the City of Mississauga, and Moya Fewson of the
City of Brampton as the Region's representatives to the PRHA.
Public Health Dentist - Purchase of Service Agreement
Regional Council authorized the Commissioner of Health to execute
an agreement with Halton Regional Health Department, and with other
health departments as required, whereby the health departments will
purchase the services of Peel's Public Health Dentist.
