The following are decisions made by Regional Council on Thursday,
June 22, 2000.
Oak Ridges Moraine Strategy Preparation Workplan
Regional Council approved the work plan for preparing a strategy
for the long-term protection of the Oak Ridges Moraine and further
authorized Planning staff to continue to undertake the preparation
of the strategy with their counterparts at the Regions of York and
Peel Older Adults' Housing
Regional Council approved the Terms of Reference for the Peel Advisory
Working Group on Older Adults' Housing. Housing and Property staff
are initiating the process to establish this Group.
Greater Toronto Airports Authority - Board Composition
Regional Council supported the Greater Toronto Airports Authority
(GTAA) proposed amendments to the GTAA by-laws which would permit
a "one-time" exemption for the current eight-year term limit
for certain Directors.
Council further requested the GTAA and the Federal Minister of Transport
to amend the GTAA by-laws to extend the maximum term of a GTAA Board
Member to 10 years.
2000-2001 Insurance Policy Renewals
Regional Council approved the renewal of the Region's general insurance
policy coverage through Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc. for the term July
1, 2000 to July 1, 2001
Emergency Communications Ad Hoc Committee
Election of Chair and Co-Chairs
Councillor Paul Palleschi was elected Chair of the Emergency Communications
Ad Hoc Committee (ECAC) and Councillors Carol Seglins and Maja Prentice
were elected to serve as Co-Chairs.
Regional Council requested the Commissioner of Public Works to arrange
a meeting between Mayor McCallion, Councillor Pat Mullin and City
of Mississauga Public Works staff to address the approach and implementation
of the program to disconnect underground storm drains from sanitary
sewers in the Park Royal area, in the City of Mississauga.
Implementation of an All-Way Stop Control on Regional Road 9 (King
Street) at Regional Road 19 (Winston Churchill Blvd.), in the Town
Regional Council enacted By-law 50-2000 to implement an all-way stop
control at the intersection of Regional Road 9 (King Street) and Regional
Road 19 (Winston Churchill Blvd), in the Town of Caledon.
Primary Treatment Expansion at the Clarkson Water Pollution Control
Plant (WPCP), in the City of Mississauga
Carosi Construction was awarded the construction of a new Primary
Tank at the Clarkson WPCP at a cost of $4,127,418 under Project 91-2920
in the City of Mississauga, Ward 2.
Implementation of a Heavy Truck Restriction on Regional Road 9
(King Street) between Regional Road 1 (Mississauga Road) and Regional
Road 19 (Winston Churchill Blvd.), in the Town of Caledon
Regional Council enacted By-law 51-2000 to implement a heavy truck
restriction on Regional Road 9 (King Street) between Regional Road
1 (Mississauga Road) and Regional Road 19 (Winston Churchill Blvd),
in the Town of Caledon.
Bolton Water Servicing in the City of Brampton and the Town of
Regional Council approved the construction of a 750mm diameter watermain
on Mayfield Road and Coleraine Drive from the North Brampton Reservoir
to the Bolton Elevated Tank at a total estimated cost of $15,711,000
under Project 99-1930.
The contract administration, construction supervision, and design
of the watermain was awarded to KMK Consultants.
Council further approved the construction of a 300 mm diameter watermain
within the proposed South Bolton Business Park along a future east/west
collector road, from Coleraine Drive to Highway 50 at a total estimated
cost of $450,000 under Project 00-1115.
Watermain Replacement on Dundas Street from Credit Woodlands to
Mason Heights, in the City of Mississauga
Regional Council endorsed a joint initiative with the City of Mississauga
for the replacement of watermains on Dundas Street East in conjunction
with the City of Mississauaga's reconstruction of Dundas Street East
from Credit Valley Woodlands to Mason Heights at a total contract
price of $6,869,400.16 under Project 99-1650.
Council concurred with the City of Mississauga's contract award for
the reconstruction of Dundas Street from Credit Woodlands to Mason
Heights to Con-Ker Construction Ltd.
Regional Council further approved the reimbursement of actual costs
incurred by the City of Mississauga for the above-noted construction
in the estimated amount of $1,550,000.
Long Term Care Beds - Awards
Regional Council accepted the provincial award of two long term care
facilities of 160 beds each to be built by December 2002 for occupation
A subcommittee has been struck to aid in the community consultation
Community Programs Funding/Purchase of Service for 2000
Regional Council approved funding totalling $410, 500 for the Region's
Community Programs for 2000.
