The following are decisions made by Regional Council on Thursday,
June 1, 2000.
2000 Peel Children's Water Festival
Regional Council proclaimed the week of June 7 - 13, 2000 as Children's
Water Awareness Week as requested by the Departments of Planning,
Health and Public Works.
Special General Committee Meeting
Regional Council requested that an emergency General Committee meeting
be held on June 15, 2000 to consider the Region of Peel's water and
sewer capacities as they relate to Regional growth issues.
Palgrave and Caledon East New Well Facilities - Town of Caledon,
Wards 4 and 5
Regional Council approved $1,500,000 for the construction of a new
well in the Town of Caledon and the construction of a new well in
Palgrave at a cost of $1,500,000.
Get Gardening School Contest
Scott Stewart, Director of Waste Management, presented the winning
submissions of the Get Gardening School Contest. The following five
schools were selected:
- Dorset Drive Public School
- Greenbriar Senior Public School
- Clark Boulevard Public School
- Cardinal Newman Catholic Public School
- Our Lady of Providence School
Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA)
Regional Council endorsed the recommendations of the
Ontario Clean Air Alliance, calling for emission caps to reduce electricity
related and cancer-causing emissions. Council further approved that
the Region of Peel join the Ontario Clean Air Alliance.
Homeless Prevention Program
Regional Council approved the increase of the Homelessness Prevention
Fund from $100,000 to $229,3000 for the year 2000. Funding will be
from the National Child Benefit Re-Investment Fund at no additional
cost to the local tax base.
