The following are decisions made by Regional Council on Thursday,
May 11, 2000.
Public Works Week-May 21-27, 2000
Regional Council proclaimed the week of May 21 to 27, 2000 as Public
Works Week in the Region of Peel. Public Works Week will be celebrated
North America wide in order to raise awareness and promote an understanding
of the importance of Public Works departments.
Resignation of Councillor David Culham, City of Mississauga, Ward
Regional Council regretfully accepted the resignation of David Culham
as a City of Mississauga member of Regional Council effective May 24,
David Culham has served as a member of the Council of the Regional
Municipality of Peel, from the City of Mississauga for the terms of
October 1973 to November 1976, and December 1980 until present.
Regional Representation on the William Osler Health Centre Board
Regional Council appointed Councillor Gael Miles, City of Brampton,
Wards 7 and 11, to serve on the William Osler Health Centre Board of
Directors for a one year term commencing on June 22, 2000.
Oak Ridges Moraine - 3 Region Initiative Update
Regional Council authorized Planning staff to continue to work with
their counterparts at the Regions of York and Durham to finalize a work
plan for preparing a co-ordinated strategy for the protection and management
of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Proposed Amendment Number 1 to the Region of Peel Official Plan, Caledon
East Service Centre Boundary and Amendment Number 162 to the Town of
Caledon Official Plan, Caledon East Secondary Plan
Regional Council adopted Amendment Number 1 to the Region of Peel Official
Plan, the Caledon East Service Centre Boundary.
Government Air Pollutant Standards and Regulations
Regional Council authorized the Commissioner of Health and the Medical
Officer of Health (MOH) to retain professional services to provide peer
review of proposed emission standards, regulations and proposals, including
new co-generation plants as proposed in the Region of Peel.
Use of Photo Radar
Regional Council requested that the Canadian Association of Chiefs
of Police (CACP) and the Canadian Association of Peel Boards (CAPB)
research and compile statistical data to determine whether photo radar
is successful in reducing excessive speeding and aggressive driving.
The loss of life due to speeding traffic continues to be a growing
concern. Photo radar is currently being used in other municipalities

Representation on the Peel Regional Housing Authority Board
Regional Council nominated Judith Morten, a resident of the Town of
Caledon, as Peel's representative to the Peel Regional Housing Authority.
