The following are decisions made by Regional Council on Thursday,
January 27, 2000.
Access to Peel - Reopening of Regional Council Chambers
Roger Maloney, Chief Administrative Officer, Bonnie Zeran, Regional
Clerk and Yvonne Holland, Director, Property Services appeared before
General Committee regarding the reopening of the Council Chambers, which
is located at Regional Headquarters in Brampton. As a result of the
retrofit project, the Council Chambers now features barrier-free doors,
improved lighting, circulation and acoustics and better public seating.
Application for Road Closure Amendment to By-law 119-75
Regional Council approved that the Commissioner of Public Works or
designate be authorized to approve an Application for Road Closure,
when in their opinion, the temporary closure is deemed to be a "Special
Event" in nature.
Amendments to the Regional Traffic By-law
Regional Council approved the following amendments to the Regional
Traffic By-law, 48-94:
- The implementation of a northbound right turn lane designation
at the intersection of Regional Road 7 (Airport Road) at the private
access located 250 metres (820 feet) north of Highway 409 westbound
off ramp in the City of Mississauga, Ward 5.
- The prohibition of northbound to southbound U-turns on Regional
Road 4 (Dixie Road) at Sandalwood Parkway in the City of Brampton,
Short and Long Term Strategies for the Reduction
of Taste and Odour in the Lake Ontario Based Water Supply
Regional Council approved funding in the amount of $2,000,000 to undertake
the installation of coagulation systems, reservoir baffling, and post-chlorination
systems to enhance the performance of the granular activated carbon
systems in the existing Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant. Regional Council
further endorsed the implementation of a pilot program on long-term
solutions for Taste and Odour at the Lakeview Water Treatment Plant
in the summer of 2000.
Prevention of Treatment of Eating Disorders
Regional Council endorsed the proposal for funding by the Ministry
of Health and Long-Term Care of a coordinated prevention and treatment
service model for eating disorders across the Region of Peel, Region
of Halton and City of Toronto (West).
National Non-Smoking Week 2000 - Status of Tobacco - Use Reduction
Regional Council urged the Federal Minister of Health and the Ontario
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care to increase tobacco taxes to make
Ontario tobacco prices at least comparable to surrounding jurisdictions.
Amendment Number 155 to the Town of Caledon Official
Plan, The Inglewood Village Plan
Regional Council supported the intended decision of the Acting Commissioner
of Planning to approve the Town of Caledon Official Plan Amendment (OPA)
Number 155, the Inglewood Village Plan, subject to the modifications
as detailed in the Appendix A of the subject report. Regional Council
endorsed the recommendation of the Inglewood Village Water Servicing
Plan with water servicing from the existing ground supply, as well as
the recommendation of the Inglewood Village Wastewater Servicing Plan
with wastewater servicing by construction of a single communal disposal
system with direct discharge to the Credit River. Regional Council then
authorized the filing of the Environmental Study Report for the Ingelwood
Village Water and Wastewater Servicing with the Ministry of the Environment
and placement on the public record.
Exemption of Area Municipal Official Plan Amendments (OPA) from
Regional Council enacted by-law 1-2000 which provides for the exemption
of Area Municipal Official Plan Amendments (OPA) from Regional approval,
effective March 1, 2000.
Improvements to Highway 10 Through the Village of Caledon
Regional Council endorsed the proposal of the Ministry of Transportation
of Ontario (MTO) for the widening of Highway 10 through the Village
